The BYU Cougars took care of business at home on Saturday night, as they beat the Idaho Vandals 52-13 in the final home game of the season. Here are some initial thoughts on the victory...

-As you would expect against a team like Idaho, the BYU offense played well. Jamaal Williams continued his amazing freshman season, rushing for 104 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Williams became the first BYU freshman to have three 100-yard rushing games.

-Cody Hoffman had a great night. Hoffman caught 9 passes for 108 yards with 3 touchdowns. Speaking of receivers, it was nice to see Ross Apo become more a part of the passing game. Ross managed 70 yards receiving on 4 catches.

-Riley Nelson made his final home game a good one. It wasn't his stats (233 passing yards, 3 TDs) that impressed me, it was the throws he made. Nelson showed nice touch and even went deep. I think we're seeing now just how hurt Riley was when he was going through his struggles.

-The Cougar defense did what they do; put constant pressure on the opposition and make it almost impossible to get in rhythm. Yes, Idaho scored, but that was one bad series that didn't define the defenses play overall. The defense intercepted Bushnell twice and returned a fumble for a score.

-Because of the hefty lead, BYU was able to put in some of the backups that normally don't get playing time. It was great to see some of the seniors see the field; especially quarterback James Lark.

-The biggest positive for BYU tonight was that they reached six wins on the season and are now bowl eligible. There is no drama however; BYU will play in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.
