MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have activated Joe Nathan from the 60-day disabled list, completing the veteran reliever's journey back to the majors from Tommy John surgery.
The six-time All-Star returns following a 30-day rehab assignment in the Cubs' minor-league system. Adam Warren was optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make room for Nathan, who had signed a one-year deal with Chicago in May as a free agent.
The Cubs made the move before Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The 41-year-old Nathan has 377 saves, eighth in major league history. He last pitched on April 6, 2015, in his only appearance that season for Detroit, before having elbow surgery later that month.
Warren was 3-2 with a 5.91 ERA. He was acquired in a trade from the New York Yankees for Starlin Castro.
