DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus is missing Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies because of the death of his mother.

A team spokesman confirmed Wednesday that Ausmus' mother had died and that he also was expected to miss Friday's game because of his daughter's high school graduation. Bench coach Gene Lamont is managing in Ausmus' absence.

Lamont said he was hopeful Ausmus would be back after two games.

Lamont said: "I wish I didn't have to manage today, but I do. I will manage today and I was going to do the game Friday anyway because Brad's daughter is graduating. I think that will be it."
