MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have called up top pitching prospect Michael Fulmer to start Friday night against the Minnesota Twins.

The Tigers made the move before the game. They got the 23-year-old righty last summer in the trade that sent slugger Yoenis Cespedes to the New York Mets.

In three starts this month with Triple-A Toledo, Fulmer was 1-1 with a 4.11 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 15 1-3 innings. His fastball reaches the mid-90s mph and he's got a sharp slider.

Fulmer was last season's Eastern League Player of the Year, going 10-3 with a 2.14 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 21 starts between Binghamton and Erie.

To make room for Fulmer, the Tigers put right-handed pitcher Shane Greene on the 15-day disabled list with a right middle finger blister, retroactive to April 25.
