BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have hired Joe McIlvaine as senior adviser of player personnel.

McIlvaine will work with the front office staff at the major league level and help with scouting, with a strong focus on this year's draft.

McIlvaine was the New York Mets executive vice president of baseball operations from July 1993 thru July 1997.

Most recently, he worked with the Seattle Mariners as special assistant to the general manager. He spent the previous 14 seasons with the Minnesota Twins, working as special assistant to the GM since 2000.

McIlvaine began his career as a territorial scout for Baltimore from 1974-76.
