With all that's happening in Utah's Washington County, there is undeniable need for effectively managing the region's growth by methodically planning for the future.
So KSL is pleased to hear that local leaders have signed on to the innovative Envision Utah process that has been used successfully along the Wasatch Front and in dozens of communities throughout the nation.
Strategically managing development in one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation won't be easy. But, the best way to do it is by involving those most affected by the growth in a highly organized and transparent process of identifying local values, evaluating local challenges, and creating a vision for coming decades that reflects local desires.
Envision Utah has clearly demonstrated such a grassroots approach, if bought into by those who live, work and play in a given area, can result in wiser decision making. In Washington County's case it should lead to achieving a workable balance between conservation and growth planning.
KSL encourages the people of Washington County to heartily embrace the Envision Utah process. As stewards of one of the most spectacular natural environments anywhere on earth, they have a keen responsibility to assure that quality growth becomes their collective vision for the future.
