NAVAL AIR STATION SIGONELLA, Sicily (AP) — President Donald Trump returned home Saturday night from the Middle East and Europe. He looked like a conventional American leader during his first trip abroad, but he sounded anything but typical. For example, he made no attempt to publicly promote democracy and human rights in Saudi Arabia. He didn't back the two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians. And he berated NATO allies about their financial commitments.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Associated Press has learned that President Donald Trump's son-in-law and now top White House adviser proposed setting up a secret back channel between the Kremlin and the Trump transition team. The proposal from Jared Kushner came during a December meeting with a leading Russian diplomat. Kushner is said to have spoken with Ambassador Sergey Kislyak about creating that line of communication to facilitate sensitive discussions aimed at exploring options on Syria.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Gregg Allman, a survivor of tragedy, knew the blues musically and in a painfully personal way. Raised by a single mother after his father was shot to death, he idolized his guitar-slinging older brother Duane and became his musical partner. They formed the nucleus of The Allman Brothers Band, which helped define the Southern rock sound. Gregg Allman, whose bluesy vocals and soulful touch on the Hammond B-3 organ helped propel the Allman Brothers Band to superstardom, has died. He was XX.

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Former U.S. President Barack Obama has offered his condolences to victims of the Manchester bombing during a meeting with Prince Harry. The prince's Kensington Palace office tweeted a picture of Harry and Obama at the palace Saturday. It said the former president expressed condolences "and support for those recovering from injuries." The two men also discussed support for veterans, mental health, conservation, and empowering young people.

LONDON (AP) — British Airways says it is canceling all of its flights from London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports for the rest of the day because of a "major IT system failure." BA has not said what is causing the computer problem, but says it has no evidence of a cyberattack. The global computer failure has caused misery for tens of thousands of travelers on a key holiday weekend in Britain. Both airports _ major worldwide hubs _ were overflowing Saturday with stranded, frustrated passengers.
