CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia's foreign minister says an Australian aid worker kidnapped in Afghanistan in April has been released and is safe and well.

Julie Bishop did not provide details Monday on the release of Kerry Jane Wilson, but gave credit to Afghan authorities.

Afghanistan authorities say Wilson was kidnapped on April 28 in the eastern city of Jalalabad.

Wilson is aged in her 60s and has been living in Afghanistan for years. She runs an organization that helps support impoverished Afghan women by selling embroidered items they make.

Bishop says Wilson's Australian family has requested privacy.

Australia says it never pays ransom to kidnappers.
