BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi officials say a suicide bombing against a security check point in northern Baghdad has killed at least 12 people.
A police officer says a bomber on foot detonated his device Sunday morning at one of the entrances of the Shiite district of Kadhimiyah, killing at least 10 civilians and four policemen. At least 31 other people were wounded.
In an online statement, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the Kadhimiyah attack, saying it targeted a gathering of security forces and Shiite militia members. The Associated Press could not verify the authenticity of the statements, but they were posted on a militant website commonly used by the extremists.
Three more civilians were killed and 11 wounded in a bomb explosion in an outdoor market in Baghdad's western suburb of Abu Ghraib.
