ISLAMABAD (AP) — Police say gunmen riding on a motorcycle have opened fire on a vehicle carrying military police in Pakistan's port city of Karachi, killing two officers before fleeing.
Senior police officer Jamil Ahmed says Tuesday's attack took place in a commercial area of the city.
In a statement, the military confirmed that two soldiers were killed in the attack.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the incident, saying the "martyred" soldiers sacrificed their lives for a "peaceful and prosperous Pakistan."
No one claimed responsibility for the attack in Karachi, the capital of southern Sindh province, where security forces have been carrying out an operation against militants and criminal groups for the past several years.
