HONG KONG (AP) — Malaysian authorities denied entry to a radical Hong Kong lawmaker at Kuala Lumpur's airport on Friday, the second time this week they have barred one of the city's outspoken pro-democracy activists.
Leung Kwok-hung was stopped on arrival by authorities who questioned him about the reason for his visit and how long he planned to stay, according to posts on his Facebook page.
The posts said authorities put him on a flight back to Hong Kong.
Leung was heading to the same forum as 18-year-old Joshua Wong, who was prevented from entering the country on Tuesday. The event is to mark the anniversary of a 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.
Malaysian immigration authorities said Wong was on a blacklist of people not allowed into the country. But it is not clear why Leung was prevented from entering.
The lawmaker is nicknamed "Long Hair" and known for wearing Che Guevara T-shirts and heckling Hong Kong's Beijing-backed leader and other establishment figures. He has also thrown bananas and released slogan-bearing balloons in the legislative chamber to promote his views.
Wong's group, Scholarism, helped spearhead the pro-democracy protests that gripped the southern Chinese city for 11 weeks last year. He had been invited to talk about the movement at a series of seminars across Malaysia.
