WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland's Parliament speaker says that the lawmakers will be given a chance to go through military training because "turbulent times" require it.
Poles are worried about the conflict in eastern Ukraine that involves Poland's neighbors, Ukraine and Russia.
Radek Sikorski said Thursday that he and Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak decided to make an army test range available, possibly in May, to lawmakers who want military training.
Sikorski wants it to be a sign for young Poles that "times have come that may require a readiness to defend the country."
Siemoniak recently encouraged Poles between the ages of 18 and 50 to undergo voluntary training.
Poland's professional army has some 85,000 officers and troops and another 20,000 reservists.
