NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — A local official says armed gunmen attacked a Kenyan coastal village, the latest of a series of attacks that have killed more than 80 people and displaced thousands. The attacks have continued despite a heavy presence of government security forces.

The security official, who insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press, said Friday that gunmen raided Pandanguo village in Lamu County where they locked up men praying in a mosque, looted medical supplies from a local dispensary and took six rifles from police reservists.

On Tuesday raiders set alight houses at a wildlife conservancy camp on the coast. Previous attacks, in which more than 80 people were killed, were claimed by Islamic extremists from Somalia, though the Kenyan government said they were locally planned.
