SALT LAKE CITY -- The weather was great for holding a yard sale this weekend, and another great weekend is expected in the seven day forecast. So if you're hosting a sale, what can you do to increase foot traffic?
Over the weekend, Roberto Carreno from Taylorsville held a yard sale. His young translator, Edith, told me it did not go well. When I asked her how many people came, she said, "[Around] five or four."
So, what could they have done to get more attention?
Yardsalesearch.com Webmaster Joel Risberg said, "A lot of people find good success in creating a ‘free section' in their sale, for instance, just setting up an area and saying, ‘Everything here is free.'"
Of course, you need a big sign to make sure people see the free section. Also, Risberg says having many yard sales on a block is more eye-catching than just one.
"Just getting your neighbors involved is often enough to help," he said.
Also, never forget to advertise your sale. There are many free Web sites that let you do this.
