Women over 40 should be aware of a few tricks of the trade when it comes to good make-up application.

Kathy Eckenbrecht, makeup artist, advises, after you have concealer and foundation, it's time for a little bit of blush. "I think some women got trapped in the 60's (laughs). What we used to do, these are no no's that big Raggedy Ann round cheeks or that famous 80's stripe... A nice flush to the cheeks you don't want--oh there are those two huge blush blobs."

She suggests mixing a little light pink with a little peach. She advises against anything that sparkles, as that will "accentuate any lines in the cheek, and we don't want that."

The first rule in applying blush is to find the apple of your cheeks, which can be found when you smile. Once the apple is found, work up the side of your face with the blush brush. "Start light," she says, "careful not to get too much color laid down. You can always go back and put a little more there and a little more there, but if you start with a blob you are kind of stuck, and you have to figure out how to get it off."

Another key to proper blush application is a good brush--the bigger the better. Kathy says throw out the little brushes that come with the blush immediately.
