CASCADE, Idaho (AP) — The Valley County Sheriff's Office and Idaho State Police were searching for a vehicle that reportedly drove off Highway 55 and into the Payette River.
KIVI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2taVm9j ) that officials received calls at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday reporting that a small SUV failed to negotiate a curve on the highway and went into the river.
Witnesses said a man struggled to get out of the vehicle before it sank. None of the witnesses was able to provide vehicle information.
Sheriff Patti Bolen asked to have the Cascade Dam closed to help with rescue operations. Local rafters helped locate the submerged vehicle but the operation was suspended when it got dark.
Officials say recovery efforts will resume this week.
