SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Latest on video of a high-profile police shooting in Salt Lake City (all times local):

3 p.m.

Newly released police video shows the moment when multiple shots were fired at a Somali refugee from short range after the suspect refused to drop a metal stick.

Body camera videos released Monday show two officers running after then-17-year-old Abdullahi "Abdi" Mohamed and yelling at him to drop the metal stick.

The footage shows one officer firing several rounds, Mohamed dropping to the sidewalk and staying on the ground without receiving treatment for at least five minutes.

Mohamed isn't seen hitting the other man in the police video, but he can be seen walking toward the victim with the stick in his hand despite police calls to drop it.

A separate surveillance video from a nearby building shows someone who appears to be Mohamed repeatedly striking the man with a stick and knocking him off his bike before police stepped in.

Salt Lake County prosecutors who long refused calls to release videos of a high-profile police shooting that critically wounded 17-year-old Somali refugee are changing course and making the footage public.

The decision announced Monday comes after body camera video was shown during a court hearing in a juvenile criminal case filed against Abdullahi "Abdi" Mohamed.

Protesters and groups like the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah had pushed for the videos' release and a state records committee recently voted to make it public

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill refused, saying that releasing it could interfere with Mohamed's case. He said that changed after the decision to show the video in open court.

Prosecutors ruled the shooting legally justified, though department's civilian review board found it was not within policy.

A judge will allow a criminal case against a 17-year-old Somali refugee critically wounded in a police shooting to proceed, a decision made after prosecutors showed unreleased video of the high-profile shooting in court.

The footage was shown Monday during an evidence hearing in a robbery and drug case against Abdullahi "Abdi" Mohamed.

Prosecutors say Mohamed was shot after he attacked another man with a metal broomstick following a botched drug deal near the city's homeless shelter in February 2016.

One of the teen's friends, though, testified the fight started after the other man sexually harassed their friend.

The footage shows the officers spotting Mohamed and the alleged beating victim from across the street and yelling multiple times to drop the broomstick. Mohamed falls after the shots are fired.
