CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming law enforcement officials are planning to search a northern Colorado landfill for the body of a 13-month-old Cheyenne boy who's been missing since Saturday, authorities say.
Capt. Linda Gesell of the Laramie County Sheriff's Office said Thursday investigators interviewed someone at the boy's home in the early morning hours Thursday who confirmed the boy was dead. Gesell said the person told investigators they had dumped the boy's body into a trash container at a local community college.
Gesell said investigators regard the case as a homicide and have been interviewing people throughout the day. She said no criminal charges have been filed yet.
Investigators worked with a sanitation company to determine that trash from the container is taken to a landfill in Ault, Colorado, Gesell said.
"The latest is we're still trying to work out logistics of us being able to get into the landfill to conduct searches," Gesell said. She said her agency has reached out to other agencies to muster a large number of people for the search.
"We've determined where the three trucks from Cheyenne have dumped, and it happened to be somewhat of a new area in the landfill," Gesell said. "So we've narrowed down a fairly smaller area where we're hoping and thinking that this child might be located."
Authorities aren't releasing the boy's name. The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle reported (http://bit.ly/2eLCFS8) that the boy's grandfather called police on Wednesday after the boy's mother said she hadn't seen the boy since Saturday.
