SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities have identified a hiker who died after he apparently fell 300 feet to 400 feet in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Unified police say 29-year-old Garrett Schroedter, of Salt Lake City, fell while hiking Sundial Peak.

He had posted photos to social media after reaching the peak of the canyon Monday and was reported missing when he didn't show up for work the next day.

His co-workers went looking for him and found his truck parked at a trailhead before calling police.

A helicopter was used to locate Schroedter's body on Tuesday.

The man's death remains under investigation.
