NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say a Nampa police officer is recovering after a suspect choked her during an arrest.

The officer had responded to a domestic disturbance call Sunday when she encountered 20-year-old Jeremiah Heady.

Police say the suspect was carrying a large stick and that he initially refused commands from the officer to drop it.

The officer was eventually able to get the stick away from Heady. As she went to arrest him, police say Heady started fighting with her and placed his arm around her throat.

Heady surrendered once other officers arrived at the scene.

He faces several charges, including battery on an officer and resisting arrest.

The Nampa officer, a 16-year veteran of the police department, was treated and released at a hospital. The extent of her injuries is unknown.
