ALPINE, Utah (AP) — A hiker has been found dead in northern Utah and a search is underway for his missing 21-year-old autistic son.
Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon says another hiker discovered the body of 57-year-old Charles Laughlin on Friday afternoon in a hiking area known as Jacob's Ladder near Alpine.
Cannon says it appears the man suffered a medical episode before his death.
Authorities notified the man's family and were told that son Michael Laughlin had been with him.
Search and rescue teams worked overnight and resumed the search Saturday morning.
A helicopter as well as an infrared camera were brought in to assist.
