SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say a Utah man killed a neighbor and attacked a friend before stabbing himself to death in front of police officers.
Lt. Lex Bell with Salt Lake County's Unified Police Department said Wednesday that Jared Groves stabbed his neighbor David Perea in Magna before going over to a friend's house and chasing him around the yard with a knife.
The friend's wife called police and officers cornered Groves in a backyard. Police say the officers used a Taser on him, but it had no effect before Groves suddenly stabbed himself in the neck.
The officers subdued him with the Taser and then tried to treat his wound, but Groves quickly bled to death.
Police are investigating reports Groves struggling with substance abuse and sleep problems before the grim chain of events.
