LAYTON, Utah (AP) — The second of two drivers charged in a case involving a teenage girl who was struck and killed in a Layton crosswalk has been sentenced to 18 months of probation.
A judge Tuesday also allowed Julia Rose Nielson to serve 10 days of home confinement instead of a suspended jail sentence of five days. The Layton woman had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of improper lookout in connection with the January death of 17-year-old BaiLee DiBernardo.
Nielson had been the second driver to strike DiBernardo, who died at a hospital.
The first driver was sentenced to two days in jail and two months of home confinement and probation. Prosecutors say he had been trying to grab a dropped drink or food in his truck when he hit the girl.
