CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) — An Iron County jury has been found guilty of aggravated assault charges in connection to the shooting of a sheriff's deputy in December 2013.
The Spectrum of St. George reports (http://bit.ly/1Q8AlSO ) that Grant Biedermann on Wednesday was found guilty of the lesser charges instead of two counts of aggravated murder.
Biedermann was accused of opening fire after Deputy Kellen Hudson and two other deputies responded to the Red Lodge Campground in Kanarraville on a report of a suicidal man.
Hudson received a gunshot wound to the hip and was treated and released.
Defense attorney Greg Skordas says the verdict is consistent with the evidence presented in the case.
The maximum sentence for a third-degree felony like aggravated assault is five years in the Utah State Prison.
