NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — The brother of a man accused of 11 charges stemming from two carjackings, a police chase and an eight-car crash last month says he's been battling mental illness for years.
Jonathan Calvin was arraigned Wednesday on charges of robbery, theft, resisting arrest, assault, disobeying a police officer, and others brought by Nashua and state police.
The 31-year-old Calvin is being held on $100,000 bail. He was given instructions to apply for a public defender.
He spoke throughout the arraignment saying "No, I wouldn't do that," about a carjacking, and "I really don't think that's me" regarding accusations that he fled.
Matthew Calvin told The Telegraph of Nashua (http://bit.ly/1scks2Y) he received a series of calls from his brother in the hours leading up to the incident. He said Jonathan thought his family was being murdered, and he was next.
