SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah artist is among 10 people selected from across the country to be honored by the White House for their unique work to highlight Asian American and Pacific Islander issues.
A White House statement released Monday said Selu Alofipo will be recognized as part of the Asian American and Pacific Islander portion of the White House's Champions of Change program.
The North Salt Lake artist and first-generation Samoan American will be honored Wednesday for his work as an expressionist artist.
The event is expected to include remarks by President Barack Obama's assistant Tina Tchen and National Endowment for the Arts' chairman Jane Chu.
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage month.
