SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Thousands of residents in northern Utah and surrounding areas don't have power after a powerful wind storm hit the area over the weekend.
Rocky Mountain Power spokesman David Eskelsen says about 3,300 homes still don't have electricity Monday morning following a weekend storm that saw winds reach speeds as high as 91 mph.
About 39,000 residents lost power over the weekend. The storm also created dangerous road conditions and damaged yards.
Eskelsen says the wind storm was severe but is not unusual for the area.
Authorities say juvenile court hearings in Farmington were briefly postponed Monday after the outage affected the courthouse.
The severity of the damage prompted Gov. Gary Herbert to visit the city of Centerville over the weekend. He visited with affected residents as well as law enforcement.
