SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A toddler has died after Unified police say the boy's stepfather tried to drown him.

Authorities say 18-month-old Ethan Antes succumbed to his injuries Sunday morning.

Police spokesman Lex Bell says the boy's stepfather, 28-year-old Codey Jolley, is being held on a charge of attempted child abuse homicide and child abuse.

The first charge will be amended to child abuse homicide after an autopsy is performed.

Bell says Jolley called 911 Friday night and reported finding the child face-down in the bathtub at their Millcreek home.

The boy was airlifted to the hospital.

Investigators say doctors found injuries on the boy were inconsistent with Jolley's account.

They are currently interviewing the boy's mother, who was at work during the incident.

It was not immediately known if Jolley had an attorney.
