NATRONA HEIGHTS, Pa. (AP) — Teachers in one western Pennsylvania school district are on strike after one last bargaining session failed to result in a contract.
The teachers' union in the Highlands School District voted in February to strike if there wasn't a new contract in place by Wednesday.
State law requires the union to give at least 48 hours' notice of a strike.
The district about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh has 190 teachers. It serves the municipalities of Brackenridge, Tarentum and Harrison Township, all along the Allegheny River.
The sides have been bargaining since January 2015.
The teachers may strike for eight days before they'll have to return under a state law mandating a minimum number of classroom days.
