RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 57-year-old Elko woman has been arrested in the 2003 killing of her husband after new leads in the cold case led detectives to a shallow grave in northern Nevada's high desert.
Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Allen told The Associated Press late Wednesday authorities believe Pam Erwin fatally stabbed James Erwin in Golconda in September 2003 about three months before he was reported missing 165 miles northeast of Reno.
Allen says detectives have been investigating the case off-and-on for 12 years. He says new evidence established probable cause to arrest Pam Erwin Tuesday and book her into the county jail on suspicion of murder.
Allen says DNA tests confirmed the victim's identity. His body was found in the foothills near Golconda south of Interstate 80 about 25 miles southeast of Winnemucca.
