AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The former president of a small liberal arts college in Maryland has been tapped to lead the University of Maine at Augusta.
University of Maine System Chancellor James Page announced Tuesday that James Conneely has been tapped for the job. He's a consultant and former president of Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore.
More than 70 people applied for the job. The other finalists were Guiyou Huang, senior vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Norwich University in Vermont, and Lawrence Gould, a political science professor at Fort Hays State University in Kansas.
The position became vacant when UMA president Glenn Cummings left to become president of the University of Southern Maine. Conneely will report for duty on Jan. 19.
