MIAMI (AP) — Florida prosecutors are considering a boot-camp program that could significantly reduce jail time for a Canadian diplomat's teenage son charged in a fatal shooting.
The Miami Herald (http://goo.gl/JstUpy ) reports that prosecutors told a judge Monday that 15-year-old Marc Wabafiyebazu met the requirements to enter the six-month program. Participants receive behavior-modification courses, job training and drug treatment.
No decision has been made.
Wabafiyebazu faces charges including felony murder as an adult in a March 30 shooting in Miami that left his older brother and another teen dead. Police say the Wabafiyebazu brothers tried to rob marijuana dealers when shooting erupted.
Defense attorneys have described Wabafiyebazu as an innocent tagalong to a troubled older brother.
Wabafiyebazu is the son of Roxanne Dube, Canada's consul general in Miami. Dube says her son's innocent.
