WASHINGTON (AP) — Middle- and high-school students in the nation's capital now have better access to the city's public libraries, thanks in part to a White House initiative.
The program is called the ConnectEd Library Challenge. Back in April, President Barack Obama challenged 30 communities to ensure that all students have access to library cards.
In the District, a library card was added to the student ID card for about 70,000 middle- and high-school students. On Wednesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser and other District officials plan to highlight the city's successful completion of the initiative.
