SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 21-year-old Utah man accused of fatally stabbing of his 19-year-old ex-wife because she was ignoring him has pleaded guilty to a murder charge.
Court records show Spencer Gerlach of Perry entered the guilty plea Monday, and prosecutors dismissed a domestic violence count in exchange.
Police say that Keltsie Gerlach was on the phone with another man and ignored her ex-husband when he arrived at her apartment in Brigham City for a visit with their 15-month-old daughter.
Prosecutors say Spencer Gerlach brought a pizza in an effort to mend fences with his ex-wife, but when she ignored him he got angry, grabbed a knife from his car and stabbed her more than a dozen times.
His lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.
Sentencing in the case is set for Dec. 16.
