DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — Northern Illinois University is rededicating a plaque honoring eight student-athletes who died during World War II.
The ceremony will be Friday morning at NIU Convocation Center in DeKalb.
The plaque was displayed for many years in the north lobby of the Chick Evans Fieldhouse. It was delivered to the new Convocation Center in 2002 but the school says it was placed in storage because it was in disrepair from more than 50 years of being displayed. It's been in storage since a restoration project started in 2014.
NIU Athletics coordinated the plaque's restoration. It was a joint project among NIU's Architectural and Engineering Services Department, the Furniture Repair Shop and NIU's School of Visual Arts.
