LOS ANGELES (AP) — Investigators say two Los Angeles police officers shot and killed a man who threw a beer bottle at their car window, causing it to shatter and making the officers think they were under fire.

The Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/1MUwH9V ) reports Monday that no gun was found after Saturday's shooting and that the bottle is what made the rear window shatter.

The county coroner says the name of the man who was killed was not released because next of kin had yet to be notified.

The officers were in their car at Sepulveda and Victory boulevards at 11:30 p.m. Saturday when the rear window shattered. Neither officer was injured.

The Times says LAPD officers have shot 32 people this year, 18 of whom were killed.
