TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Indiana State University says it has set an enrollment record with nearly 13,600 students on the Terre Haute campus.

School officials say the fall semester enrollment increased by about 400 students from last year to top the previous high that was set in 1970.

About 30 percent more students are now attending Indiana State than in 2008, when enrollment had dropped to about 10,500.

University Board of Trustees chairman David Campbell says growing enrollment has been part of the school's strategic plan and that leaders are pleased with the results. The school's goal is to reach 14,000 students by fall 2017.
