BARABOO, Wis. (AP) — Parents and other fans must now adhere to a new code of conduct at high school sporting events in Baraboo.

The Baraboo High School Parent/Fan Code of Conduct was developed this summer at two meetings consisting of about 25 students, parents and coaches. Athletic Director Jim Langkamp presented it Monday night at the Baraboo School Board meeting.

"A large percentage of our spectators are very positive and very supportive," Langkamp said. "We don't want them to be put in a tough spot in the stands."

But coaching turnover has been a problem, he said, adding that it's difficult to build a successful program if coaches don't decide to stay in their positions.

"We want to treat our coaches with respect," Langkamp said.

Under the new rules, coaching from parents and other fans in the stands will no longer be tolerated. No booing, taunting or posting negative comments on social media are allowed either.

Specific protocol will be in place to address other concerns, the Baraboo News Republic (http://bit.ly/1Icwo4Q ) reported.

An initial meeting between the fan and coach will be held, followed by the addition of a parent and the athletic director, if necessary. Depending on the severity of the situation, disciplinary action could range from a verbal or written warning to suspension from future sporting events.

The code was created in response to "a handful of isolated incidents over the course of the 2014-15 school year that collectively indicated a need for us to re-commit to making BHS athletics a more positive, supportive environment for everyone involved," Langkamp said in an earlier interview.

A copy of the code will be included in programs at the Sept. 4 football game.
