NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A national fraternity at Yale University is headed to trial in the case of a 2011 crash that killed a woman and injured two others.
Members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity were driving to a tailgating event for a Nov. 19, 2011 Yale-Harvard football game in a U-Haul truck carrying kegs when the driver lost control.
Police say Brendon Ross accelerated into a crowd of pedestrians before hitting another truck. Graduate student Nancy Barry was killed and two others, including Sarah Short, were seriously injured.
A Waterbury judge last week ruled in favor of Short and Barry's family, who filed a lawsuit against the fraternity in 2013.
The suit seeks to hold the fraternity fully responsible for Ross's actions.
The fraternity's lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.
