DALLAS (AP) — A former Dallas Independent School District teacher and coach has received probation for sexually assaulting a student and having an improper relationship with another.
The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/1SYlB4G ) reports 45-year-old Philon Deberry received 10 years of probation for sexual assault Monday. If he completes the probation successfully, Deberry will avoid a formal conviction. Deberry also has to register as a sex offender as part of the plea deal.
According to prosecutors, Deberry lured a 17-year-old girl to a locker room and forced her to perform a sex act in 2012. The student reported the incident in 2013 when Deberry was on leave for an unrelated incident and she felt comfortable coming forward.
Deberry also pleaded guilty Monday to having an improper relationship with a student for which he received five years of probation.
