CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — A Brooklyn school district guidance counselor has been charged with trading in child pornography.
According to Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1J7zoFz ), John Capuano of Valley Stream has been a United Federation of Teachers representative in School District 18 for the past three years.
He was arraigned Thursday; he wasn't required to enter a plea. He's being held without bail until his family can provide home-value documents to support a bail package.
The judge said she would consider letting him work after his attorney said he would see if the UFT could find him a position with no contact with children.
A Board of Education spokesman didn't immediately return a request for comment. The UFT said it believes in zero tolerance regarding sexual misconduct with children.
