ELKO, Nev. (AP) — An Elko portable toilet has been damaged beyond repair in what fire officials suspect was an arson set by two juveniles on Memorial Day weekend.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/1eA0SHn ) that Elko Fire Chief Matt Griego says a witness smelled smoked after seeing two young people goofing around near the toilet on Monday evening.
The person noticed the blue portable toilet was tipped on its side and smoking and reported it to officials.
Griego says it appears that toilet paper was set on fire and the flames spread after reaching a dispenser of alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
The toilet belongs to Terry's Pumpin' and Potties Inc. The manager says the structure is a total loss and will cost about $600 to replace.
