GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The University of Florida College of Nursing has decided to end its midwifery program and two other doctoral tracks of study after announcing plans to drop them months ago.
The Gainesville Sun (http://bit.ly/1GFSrVH ) reports the programs will end in 2018, when the last of the current students are scheduled to graduate. School officials say there will be no more students admitted.
The midwifery program is one of about 40 at schools across the country accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the only nurse midwifery program offered by a Florida school. The adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner and neonatal nurse practitioner programs will also be dropped.
In January, Dean Anna McDaniel said the college administration chose to suspend new enrollment in those three programs for several reasons, including consistently lower enrollment numbers.
