MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Former NFL quarterback, network analyst and Morehead State standout Phil Simms is returning to the campus in eastern Kentucky this week to be honored during Morehead's spring commencement.

Simms will speak during graduation ceremonies Saturday and will receive a bachelor of university studies degree and an honorary doctor of humane letters degree.

Simms, who graduated from Louisville Southern High School, was a four-year letterman at Morehead, finishing his career there with 5,545 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. He was the Ohio Valley Conference's offensive player of the year in 1977 and was the New York Giants' first selection (seventh overall) in the 1979 NFL Draft.

He played in the NFL for 15 years and held 19 team records when he retired, leading the Giants to two Super Bowl titles.
