BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — Two University of Montana pharmacy students are OK after the massive earthquake that struck Nepal and left more than 4,000 people dead.
The Montana Standard reports (http://bit.ly/1EfGC5N ) that 25-year-old Drew Clavelot and 24-year-old Taryn Moore were visiting a friend Saturday when the 7.8 magnitude quake shook the country.
A nearby building collapsed while the three were sightseeing in Bhaktapur.
Their friend, former UM student Melissa Roth, is currently serving in the Peace Corps. She used her connections and language skills to find a safe place for the three to spend the night.
Clavelot's mother, Sheila Messer of Anaconda, said her son and Moore are staying at the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu with other American survivors.
She said people are sleeping on the floor or on cots and using library computers.
