IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Department of Fish and Game says grizzly bears are on the move, signaling the end of hibernation.
Fish and Game's Upper Snake Region spokesman Gregg Losinski said the department started seeing movement last week among the bears that are collared.
According to the Post Register, (http://bit.ly/1cIEMBt) reports of eastern Idaho grizzlies waking up come a month or more after reports of grizzlies leaving dens in Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks.
Losinski said black bears sleep in a bit longer, but since area grizzlies woke up so late, chances are all bears are out and about.
Officials said hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts should consider bear safety. Carrying bear spray, avoiding carcasses in the woods, and making noise to alert bears of your presence is a good start.
