STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — The Starkville School District and East Mississippi Community College are working on a plan to allow the junior college to offer courses and college-level classes at West Oktibbeha County High School.

The Maben campus is scheduled to close after July 1 when the Starkville and Oktibbeha County school systems merge.

The Commercial Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1aVioUh ) that the deal would allow the public schools to hand off maintenance and property upkeep to EMCC. In return, the junior college will expand its offerings to the western portion of the county.

Under the current consolidation plan, Oktibbeha County School District's two elementary schools will remain open for young students who live in the outlying areas of the county.

The two county high schools will close, and those students will attend Starkville High School.
