GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — The Campbell County School District doesn't have enough music instruments to loan students or families.
Band instructor Karia Schofield says the school district has 791 band instruments to loan to students during the school year.
But the number of fifth- and sixth-graders involved in band and orchestra classes has increased over the past two years.
Schofield says the situation has particularly impacted students in lower socioeconomic areas of Gillette where parents can't afford to rent instruments.
She told trustees that 50 elementary students have had to play either different instruments than they wanted or left the program because they couldn't get an instrument or had to share one.
The Gillette News Record reports (http://bit.ly/1CvbpHR ) that district administrators are looking at buying more instruments to help address the problem.
