ATLANTA (AP) — Spelman College has named a former New York University dean as its next leader.

The Atlanta school on Saturday named Mary Schmidt Campbell its next president.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://on-ajc.com/19h2mCB) that Campbell is dean emerita of the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, where she served more than two decades before retiring last year.

Campbell replaces Beverly Tatum, who retires this summer after 13 years at the helm of the acclaimed historically black women's college.
