BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Police say an Alabama man is accused of forcing an elderly woman to drink rubbing alcohol during a burglary.
Jefferson County Sheriff's spokesman Randy Christian says the 93-year-old woman told investigators she was attacked Thursday morning after she came out of her bathroom.
The woman said a masked intruder confronted her and demanded money. She told police the man assaulted her and forced her to drink rubbing alcohol after she said she didn't know where her billfold was. Christian says the man stole $200 and ran away.
Christian says investigators arrested a suspect identified as the woman's 21-year-old neighbor Alexander Coleman. Christian says he's charged with robbery, burglary and assault. Coleman is being held in the county jail with bond set at $620,000. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
